We stand in support and solidarity with all
organizations who are committed to ending
violence against Aboriginal and Indigenous
women all over the world!!!
As Onkwehonwe men, we were given the understanding
that women are sacred beings and are the sacred
doorway to life coming to earth. They have been created
with the ability to give birth and are the life givers. As
such we were instructed at the time of creation that we
were to never come against our women with any type of
violent action or behavior, physically, mentally,
emotionally or spiritually. We were instructed that we, as
men, were and are to be the helpers to our women as
they build and manage their homes, children, families,
clans, communities, and nations. We were to do our work
in such a manner as to give them every tool they need to
be able to do this important work.
For those of us who carry, honor, and play the flute, it is
even more so, since this instrument came to us to be
used to honor and show respect to the female and female
energies of the earth. Our Elders tell us that the greatest
strength a man can ever show is the strength to be
gentle. We are taught that when we work with the
women and offer them our help at building families, and
living life here on our Mother the Earth, that we are
always to come to them mentally, emotionally, physically
and spiritually, with the same gentleness and beauty that
the music of the flute brings. This is our way as
Onkwehonwe men. May it always be that way in our
minds.
